Minister of Public Works To build an "Underground Bridge" on National Road 3 in Veal Renh Area

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Public Works, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol has said that the reason why the 20-kilometer National Road No. 3 Kampot-Veal Renh was difficult and damaged due to the dirty and soft soil, as he has planned to build a bridge under the road.

Speaking at the meeting to summarize the results of road safety work in 2021 on 9 February, 2022, Mr. Sun Chanthol has confirmed that to end the repetition of construction on National Road 3 above. He plans to pour 18 meters of foundation into the ground to make a bridge embedded below before paving the road above.

He has said: "This road since the Popular communist socialist era cannot be hold on for a long time because the soil is rotten, the soil is soft, there are about 18 km, 5 km in Veal Renh, so to make this road strong , we have to hit, have to drill 18 foundations Meters and make an underground bridge, then it will be strong, if not, it will damage before repair or repaired then still got damaged.”

He has added that the Ministry of Public Works has also agreed with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to propose to China in 2023 a temporary repair before additional funding from China to technically rehabilitate the road.
